Welcome to the
Phat  Performance's Oil Relocation Kit.

One of the only problem issues with the Vstar 1100 is the oil filter.
What is usually a 20 minute operation is an hour excursion into the disassembly of your bike.
That is why I decided to get the Oil filter relocation kit. Now oil changes take less then 10 minutes!

(These are for the Classic)
Tools Needed are as follows..
1/4 in ratchet
3in, 1/4 in extension
8mm, 1/4 socket
12mm, 1/4 socket
14mm, wrench
17mm wrench (oil drain plug)
4mm allen wrench
5mm allen wrench
Bike lift, not needed, but doing it without will take you twice as long..

Begin by doing the same thing you would as doing a regular oil change.
Unbolt the rear brake reservoir and push it to the side..
Remove the small round Yamaha side cover.
Loosen the exhaust clamp for the front pipe, it is a 5mm allen screw
where the front and rear pipe join.
remove the front 14mm floor board bolt and loosen the rear,
Allow the floor board to tip forward gently.
remove the two 12mm front exhaust header bolts from the cylinder head.
Take the exhaust pipe and wiggle it forward in a clock wise motion until
the rear of the pipe is free. Place the pipe aside where you wont stomp on it.
Remove the cover that holds the OEM filter assembly in.
Remove the OEM filter assembly and put it aside.
The Phat relocation kit comes with some good instructions,
(Download them Here!)
I'll summarizetheir install instructions.
remove the O rings from the old filter assembly, place them on the new engine oil
outlet unit. Make sure the small O ring is still in the lower hole on the engine.
Install the oil outlet unit, Install the hose nipples onto the unit, tighten them
until tight, about two to three threads should be showing. Take the oil filter holder
assembly and attach it to the front frame cross member. Keep a bit loose and adjust
it so it is tight up near the engine, about an 1/8th of an inch away from the engine.
install the line nipples in the same manner as before. Install the covered
hose clamps on the lines and install the lines to connect the units. Short line goes on the top.
Tighten the clamps, install the filter, remember to grease the seal. Install the exhaust
pipe ( I use Black High Temp RTV on the pipe flange). Install the floor board and brake reservoir.
Start the bike for a few seconds, shut off, check oil level and check for leaks.
Top off you oil, run it for a few minutes and check for leaks.
Double check to make sure everything is tight as well.
Go for a ride!
